UK Driving Test: Show Me, Tell Me Questions
1. Check that the brakes are working
Brakes should not feel spongy or slack. Test them as you set off. The vehicle should not pull to one side.
2. Tyre pressures and how to check
Check the manufacturer’s guide. Use a reliable pressure gauge when tyres are cold. Don’t forget the spare tyre. Refit valve caps.
3. Check headlights and tail lights
Operate the switch (turn on ignition if needed), then walk around the vehicle to check.
4. Problem with ABS
The ABS warning light will stay on if there is a fault when the engine starts.
5. Tyre tread depth and condition
No cuts or bulges. Tread must be at least 1.6mm across the central ¾ breadth, measured with a tread depth gauge.
1. Clean the rear windscreen
Operate rear windscreen washer and wiper controls.
2. Clean the front windscreen
Operate front windscreen washer and wiper controls.
3. Switch on dipped headlights
Operate the headlight switch or stalk.
4. Set the rear demister
Press the rear demister button (heated window symbol).
5. Operate the horn
Press the horn button, usually in the centre of the steering wheel.
6. Open and close the side window
Use the window control switch.
